In 2018, at the 51st Ski Congress of the International Ski Federation (FIS) it was officially announced that Bakuriani, Georgia would host FIS Freestyle Ski, Snowboard and Freeski World Championships in 2023. The decision was made by former FIS president, Gian Franco Casper.
It’s symbolic that by that time Michel Vion was the president of French Ski Federation and he was the one who presented the French resort, Courchevel as the host of Alpine World Championships. In the meantime, Bakuriani won the status of Freestyle Ski, Snowboard and Freeski World Championships host.
After 5 years Michel Vion visited Georgia as FIS Secretary General and talked about the process of the preparation for World Championships and the importance of this large-scale event for Georgia.

FIS Secretary General Michel Vion and Head of Events Sandra Spitz visited Bakuriani for final inspection with other FIS representatives on November 14-15. In terms of the inspection FIS members , with LOC including Georgian Ski Federation and Mountain Trails Agency, visited all Stadiums prepared for World Championships.
In terms of FIS Freestyle Ski, Snowboard and Freeski World Championships, 3 new ski lifts have been added to Bakuriani trails by the support of M.T.A.
LOC has received positive feedback from FIS members and with less than 90 days left till the most important event of the year, Georgian team will tirelessly continue preparations to make great World Championships happen!
